Coming from Chiang Dao requires crossing mountains, and coming from Wiang Pa Pao also requires crossing mountains. Because of this, not many people visit Phrao. I myself have rarely seen images of Phrao city on the internet. So I decided to visit Phrao once to see what it has to offer. Experiencing Phrao made me realize it is a quieter town compared to many others I have visited. It feels like a remote district but warm and welcoming.
Almost all the houses and shops are wooden houses, which are rare to find nowadays. Even in Pai, many have changed. Phrao has only one night market. There aren't many restaurants, just one small grilled pork restaurant. I walked through the night market eating hygienic roti, then strolled comfortably towards the district office. Phrao has hotels designed as individual houses, costing a few hundred baht per night, with wifi that is quite fast, though it slows down and disconnects in the late morning. There are other accommodations in Phrao but they are more expensive and wifi availability is uncertain.
