Chiang Mai Travel: Mae Chaem

http://www.hotsia.com > Mae Chaem District feels like an overlooked town, and when driving through, few people notice its beauty. Mae Chaem lies behind Doi Inthanon. If you drive up Doi Inthanon via Chom Thong, there is a route descending the back of the mountain. This path leads to a small, peaceful town nestled in the forest. If you are not rushing to Pai or Mae Sariang Khun Yuam, consider staying here for a night. You will realize Mae Chaem is truly special.

Mae Chaem is surrounded by mountains, and in winter, mist fills the valleys. The Mae Chaem rice fields are incredibly beautiful. From the mountain viewpoint, you can see Doi Inthanon as a backdrop with the rice fields in front, covered in mist. This view is rare to find elsewhere. Mae Chaem also has many stunning terraced rice fields. When visiting Mae Chaem, be sure to enjoy the beautiful rice field views shrouded in mist. Other attractions include the Thep Nom hot springs, Ban Thong Fai village known for traditional weaving, and several ancient temples.

I traveled to Mae Chaem to gather information and stayed overnight at Pam View Mae Chaem Hotel, owned by a local teacher. The hotel offers fast and stable internet and Wi-Fi with views overlooking the Mae Chaem rice fields. Most food options in Mae Chaem are simple local dishes like sticky rice with grilled chicken or pork, served in authentic village-style eateries. There are only a few made-to-order restaurants in town, a barbecue pork restaurant, and a 7-Eleven convenience store. At night, you can find places serving Pad Thai and fried mussels.

At night, the town is quiet with most lights off as people rest. The Mae Chaem River flows through the town, and food is never scarce, especially fresh fish. The locals are kind; when I visited the morning market and bought fish, I was able to ask them to prepare salted fish for me, and they even fried another fish without charging me. Tourists rarely visit Mae Chaem, so imagine how proud and impressed you would feel being among the first to explore Mae Chaem's tourism.

Small gardens in the middle of rice fields. Mr.Hotsia enjoys traveling here. There are also tennis courts and grass courts. Before sunset in Mae Chaem, mist covers the Mae Chaem River even during the rainy season. On Mr.Hotsia's trip to Mae Chaem, get to know the water beetle. Explore the terraced rice fields of Mae Chaem and enjoy Hot Coffee at Mae Na Chon.
