The present-day Hod district was not originally located on the route from Chom Thong to Mae Sariang. Hod was situated several dozen kilometers further south. In the year B.E., the Bhumibol Dam was constructed, causing the relocation of residents from many villages including Doi Tao, Omkoi, and Hod.

Due to the floodwaters from the dam reaching even areas hundreds of meters away from the Bhumibol Dam, the original Hod district was completely submerged. Forty years have passed; some areas have dried out while others remain heavily flooded. I reviewed data on the water volume above the Bhumibol Dam and found that water levels decrease every year (see the remains of Doi Tao lake). This matches the visible evidence: the ancient city of Hod that was once underwater has now resurfaced, clearly seen in the remains of the submerged pagoda.

The surrounding areas are now used by locals for cultivating crops such as corn and beans. I want to share this story with the world, especially all Thai people, to raise awareness that nature has dealt us a harsh blow. We must all work together to protect nature, especially the forests. The people of Doi Tao and Hod alone cannot do much except quietly raise their voices through roadside signs calling for help. Seeing these signs, I felt I could contribute by writing this article.
