Travel Chiang Mai Wiang Haeng Wat Fa Wiang In

It is located in Wiang Haeng district, built in 1857, and is a Tai Yai style temple situated in Ban Lak Taeng right on the Thai-Myanmar border, not far from Ban Piang Luang. In the past, Ban Lak Taeng was under the influence of Khun Sa. Therefore, this temple was considered one entity without division. However, after Khun Sa surrendered to the Myanmar military government, the temple land was divided into two parts.
On the Thai side, there is a golden yellow pagoda. Looking towards Myanmar, you can see the red roof of the Tai Yai style ordination hall. Besides the pagoda, at the temple courtyard’s back, there is a shrine of King Naresuan the Great, which the locals highly respect. At the foot of the mountain behind is the cemetery of General Mo Heng, a former Tai Yai leader here. Please be warned that entering the Myanmar side of the temple is strictly prohibited. Someone once stepped on a landmine there and lost a leg, as told to me by a Chiang Tung noodle vendor.
At this temple, I found an exhibition about the history of the Tai Yai people, including pictures of Tai Yai leaders and the former Prince of Shan State, which I had never seen anywhere else.
